Staff Product Designer, Consumer UX

The role

HelloFresh Group is building the next generation of consumer experiences across its portfolio — from discovery and personalization to shopping and subscription management. The Consumer UX team designs end-to-end experiences that are simple, delightful, and grounded in real customer needs.

This is a Staff-level individual contributor role for a designer who is a recognized expert. You bring outstanding craft, deep systems thinking, and sharp UX strategy, and you build on that depth to move into research too, shaping not just how experiences look and fit together, but which problems we solve and why. You set the quality bar for your alliance, take on ambiguous and interconnected design problems, and make the people around you better through influence rather than authority.

This is an individual contributor role. It carries no people-management or direct-report responsibility — your leverage comes from craft mastery, systems leadership, and cross-functional influence, not line management.

We're looking for a strong T-shaped designer. The three deep vertical spikes are non-negotiable; the horizontal bar is what makes this a Staff role rather than a specialist one.

• UX strategy: you inform which product problems to solve and why, tie those choices to business outcomes like conversion, retention, or engagement, and set the direction before design work begins.
• Systems thinking: you architect modular, sustainable systems and resolve design debt, delivering coherent experience narratives that hold together across flows, brands, and touchpoints.
• Craft mastery: you are a master of UI and UX design — layout, hierarchy, motion, typography, micro-interaction — and you hold that bar for an entire cross-functional unit.

With that foundation, you move easily beyond design. You dig into research and synthesis with our researchers, and you work through technical constraints with our engineers. What you’ll do

• Master-level experience design: Lead design from concept to execution and own the full experience across consumer touchpoints. As a master of UI and UX design, you deliver holistic experience narratives through strong UX strategy and hold the quality bar for your alliance, guiding peers in enhancing their craft.
• Systems thinking: Architect intuitive experiences within real technical constraints. Design modular systems that improve efficiency and resolve design debt, creating sustainable, long-term solutions that reach above and beyond individual product boundaries.
• UX strategy: Shape product strategy by combining AI analysis with human intuition to develop directions neither could produce alone. Translate insights into compelling narratives, triangulate data, and link design decisions to business and customer needs. Proactively identify strategic product opportunities and anticipate how AI changes user expectations.
• Bridge into research: Deeply understand the problem space and drive comprehensive data synthesis, deriving and articulating deep insights that shape both discovery and execution in your domain. Establish AI-assisted synthesis practices that move the team from data to insight faster while maintaining rigor, and mentor others in advanced research and analysis techniques.
• AI-native workflow: Push what's possible with AI — using it for complex, multi-step problems, defining what "good enough" means for AI-assisted work in your area, and designing AI-native features (assistants, recommendations, conversational surfaces) that feel helpful and earn user trust. You decide where humans stay in control and where AI can take over.
• Craft innovation: Facilitate creative methodologies across teams, establish rapid prototyping practices that help the team explore broadly and converge on validated solutions faster, and continuously evolve the team's toolset. Use motion and interaction as strategic tools to make experiences feel alive and intentional.
• Cross-functional influence: Make confident decisions with product leads, engineers, and other stakeholders. Advocate clearly and persistently for the right outcome, and guide teams through trade-offs that balance technical constraints with UX innovation. You are a UX domain expert and thought leader, sought out for guidance and direction.

What you’ll bring

• Experience: Typically 8+ years in product design with a proven track record of delivering high-quality consumer products end-to-end, plus demonstrated impact beyond your own projects — setting standards, resolving ambiguous problems, and elevating those around you.
• Craft mastery: Master-level visual and interaction design with an exceptional personal bar. Deep command of hierarchy, motion, micro-interaction, and animation, and the ability to define and articulate quality standards that others adopt.
• Systems thinking: Proven ability to design modular, scalable systems, resolve design debt, and deliver coherent experience narratives across flows, brands, and touchpoints.
• Cross-disciplinary range: Evidence that you bridge beyond pure design — shaping product strategy with PMs and driving research and synthesis with researchers — and can move fluidly across all threedriving research and synthesis with researchers, and navigating trade-offs with engineers — and can move fluidly across systems, research, and delivery to drive innovation.
• AI-native design skills: Fluent, daily use of AI across the design workflow — strategy, insight synthesis, discovery, rapid prototyping, and design-to-code. Fluency with tools like Figma AI, Claude, and Claude Code is expected, along with the judgment to know when AI enhances versus compromises quality.
• High agency: You push for the right solution rather than the convenient one, bring conviction to design decisions, and navigate significant ambiguity with strong rationale.
• Communication: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives and secure buy-in upward and across business functions.
• Mentorship through influence: You raise the craft bar around you and are sought out as an expert — without needing formal authority to do it.
