Leading New England Construction Company seeking Chief Financial Officer Executive Board Leadership Role About Our Client The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the senior financial executive for a long‑standing, privately held, diversified construction organization. Reporting to the President, the CFO provides strategic financial leadership, guiding the executive team and ownership in areas of financial planning, budgeting, performance measurement, risk management, and long‑term value creation. The CFO acts as a key advisor to business unit leaders and department heads, ensuring strong financial oversight, sound fiscal policies, and alignment with the company's strategic goals. This role oversees financial operations, financial systems, budgeting, investment programs, and fiduciary responsibilities. Job Description Strategic Leadership Provide forward‑looking financial insight and strategic direction to support sustainable growth. Assess financial performance against budgets, long‑term plans, and competitive benchmarks. Establish predictive financial oversight to alert executive leadership of risks or significant financial events. Partner with senior executives on financial strategy, operational trends, and key performance drivers. Financial Management & Planning Develop tools, systems, and reporting to deliver timely, accurate financial and operational information. Lead financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes. Oversee monthly, short‑ and long‑term financial management activities. Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and audit standards while maintaining strong internal controls. Operational & Staff Leadership Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, and technology systems. Mentor, develop, and lead the finance, IT/business process improvement, and contract administration teams. Oversee work allocation, performance evaluation, staff development, and team effectiveness. Facilitate cross‑divisional collaboration across business units and corporate departments. Cash Management & Banking Manage cash‑flow forecasting, commercial lines of credit, and loan programs. Develop reliable cash‑flow reporting with minimum‑threshold requirements for operational needs. Optimize banking, insurance, and surety relationships to strengthen liquidity and financial stability. Policies, Procedures & Risk Management Develop financial policies and protocols that support internal controls, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. Support business strategy by promoting profitable growth and cost‑effective operations. Provide leadership for risk management, contract review, and high‑level negotiations when required. Investments & Executive Advisory Oversee investment programs, retirement plans (including 401(k), SERP, and deferred compensation), and relationships with external advisors. Serve as a financial advisor to ownership regarding investments, estate planning, and tax matters. Lead financial structuring and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. Supervisory Responsibilities Department‑level oversight of finance, accounting, IT, and contract administration functions. The Successful Applicant MBA or bachelor's degree in accounting with equivalent experience; CPA preferred. 12 - 15+ years of broad financial leadership experience, ideally within a construction organization with revenues over $100M. Deep knowledge of construction‑industry accounting, including WIP schedules, job‑cost reporting, budgets, and consolidated financials. Experience managing complex financial data and presenting actionable insights to senior executives. Strong analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication abilities. Proven ability to manage multiple complex priorities under deadlines. Exceptional interpersonal, relationship‑building, and customer‑service skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with construction ERP platforms (e.g., COINS, Viewpoint, Timberline). Prior involvement in mergers & acquisitions. Must pass a pre‑employment drug screening.
